What color is Stitch, and why it matters here

Stitch is blue. Not sky blue and not navy, but a bright, slightly purple blue that Disney has kept exactly the same since the film came out in 2002. His belly, the inside of his ears and the patches around his eyes are a paler shade of the same blue, almost lavender, and his nose is a dark navy. That is the whole character in three colors, and it is why he is one of the most satisfying characters to color: get the blue right and everything else is a bonus.

He is officially Experiment 626, built to be indestructible and to destroy everything he touches, which is a strange starting point for a character who ends up as the most loved alien in animation. The film turns on one word, ohana, the Hawaiian idea that family means nobody gets left behind, and a surprising number of the drawings here are really about that: Stitch with Lilo, Stitch with Angel, Stitch with whoever is nearby.

Most of the scenes in this collection put him somewhere specific, at the beach, at Halloween, with a bubble tea in both paws. The setting is where you get to choose. Stitch himself is blue, and the fun is in what you do around him.

Use two blues, not one. The body takes the strong blue and the belly, ears and eye patches take the pale one. That single contrast is what makes a colored Stitch look like Stitch.

Common questions

What color is Stitch?

Bright blue with a purplish tinge, and a paler lavender blue on his belly, the inside of his ears and around his eyes. His nose is dark navy and his claws are a darker blue. Disney has never changed those colors.

Who is Angel?

Experiment 624, a pink version of Stitch with longer antennae and eyelashes. She first appears in the television series, and she and Stitch have been drawn together ever since, which is why she turns up in this collection.

What does ohana mean?

It is the Hawaiian word for family, in the wide sense: relatives, but also the people you choose. In the film the line is that ohana means nobody gets left behind or forgotten, and it is the reason Stitch stays with Lilo.

Which Stitch coloring page is best for a small child?

The baby Stitch sitting down. There is nothing behind him, the shapes are big and the lines are thick, so a fat crayon does the job.

Can I color Stitch online instead of printing?

Yes. Every drawing here opens in the browser: pick a color, click inside an area and it fills. Your work is saved on your own device, so you can come back to it.
